From Birth to Three: Exploring Educators’ Understandings of Agency

چکیده

The Early Years Learning Framework promotes the need to recognise children’s participation rights and for educators be responsive promote child agency. This study explored how infant toddler understand agency, what role they ascribe themselves in infants’ toddlers’ realisation of Research was undertaken early childhood settings Brisbane, Australia. Interviews reflection activities were conducted with 15 working children under three years, responses coded through thematic analysis. Participants provided some definitions agency examples supporting their everyday practices. However, largely revealed confusion limited understandings Through engaging a critical feminist paradigm, connection between status infant–toddler educators, impact upon knowledge practice is proposed, recommendations put forward increased opportunities relating birth pedagogy.
